The healing arts are any combination of creative practices and activities that promote hope, healing, wellness, coping, personal understanding and growth. Traditional healing arts may include music, art, dance or movement activities such as yoga or Tai Chi, poetry, guided journaling, storytelling and drama/improvisation.
In our classes, workshops and programs we also include aromatherapy, color therapy, guided imagery, meditation and self-hypnosis.
Art helps us heal by strengthening the connection between mind, body and emotions. Unlike physical exercise, which brings body awareness, or meditation, which brings mental awareness, creating art accesses both, allowing you to be aware of, process and express thoughts and emotions while promoting self-healing.
Our offerings blend all of these processes for a fun, multi-dimensional experience.
No - You do not need a therapist. You can create and use art effectively, especially to reduce stress, on your own or in a group class setting.
One aspect of using healing art in a therapeutic setting, is to have a therapist guide you in processing emotions. However, you can use any type of visual or healing art therapeutically on your own whenever you'd like to or need to.
There are many therapeutic and healing art exercises you can do by yourself such as sketching, coloring, painting, collage, cooking, meditation, Tai Chi, gardening, singing/humming and more.
*While you don't need a therapist to use art for processing experiences and emotions on your own, if you are under the care of a therapist, please speak to him or her about using art to support and expand your current treatment plan. Artmaking can enhance a positive outlook and state of well-being but doesn't replace highly skilled professional therapy.
